Our Museum had many intriguing exhibits here are the details of but a few. Do note that in the fullness of time this section will expand.
Boer War
The diary kept by the then Major Lee, commander of Lancer Squadron in South Africa in which Banjo wrote original poems in his own hand.
The mysterious flag with links to the heroic defence of the Elandts River post.
Pipe smoking was a very common habit in 1899. This exhibit covers two examples of contemporary smoking pipes in the Museum's collection.
World War 1
The time when a shortage of horses led to the formation of a Donkey Troop.
The Gallipoli campaign started in spring, soldiers experienced a hot summer, then the beginning of a harsh Turkish winter. Soldiers' diaries in the Museum tell the story.
This item covers one 1st Light Horseman's experience and reactions on his repatriation to Australia in January 1919. The Light Horseman is Tpr WB Barracluff and the item is his repatriation diary. It clearly shows the deep disappointment, even anger, of Barracluff and the other soldiers being repatriated aboard the SS Port Hacking, when they eventually drop anchor in Port Phillip Bay, only to be put straight into quarantine. Hardly a heroes welcome after, for him (he was on the first AIF convoy to leave Australia and fought at Gallipoli) four long, hard years away from home.
The extraordinary tale of a map of the Balkans found on a Turkish officer in Amman, 1918.
A tin, complete with toffees sent to troops for Christmas 1915 and New Year 1916.
World War 2
An original hiring agreement, dated 1939 from a time when civillian trucks were hired to provide mechanised mobility for the Regiment.
